Article: Sin in Islam

Sins are two kinds in Islam. 1. minor sin 2. major sin. Major sins which are explicitly forbidden in Islam. A list of major sins which must be avoided by a Muslim.

1. Committing sin of shirk (polytheism) 2. Disobedience of the parents. 3. Stealing 4. Telling a lie. 5. Backbiting and slandering. 6. Finding fault with others. 7. Having suspicion on others. 8. Giving false evidence. 9. Killing a man unjustly. 10. Breaking promise or agreement. 11. Betraying a trust. 12. Drinking and gambling. 13. Swearing falsely. 14. Possessing of another’s property by force. 15. Giving or taking the bribe. 16. The practice of usury. 17. Looting others property and committing dacoity. 18. Cheating or deceiving others. 19. Encroaching upon another’s land or removing the bound very mark of such land. 20. Not giving the wages of labours. 21. Disobedience to the husband. 22. Allowing one’s wife to mix with a stranger. 23. Remarrying one’s wife after her divorce by an unholy arrangement (Hilla) with another. 24. Assuming by a woman the appearance of a man and assuming by a man the appearance of a woman. 25. Betting in the horse race. 26. Making of counterfeit coins or currency notes. 27. The witness of dance and dramatic performance or playing a part in them. 28. Wearing of the gold ring and silk cloth by a male. 29. No to purify oneself after urinal call. 30. Committing nuisance else on the road or under a shadowing or fruit bearing tree. 31. Swearing on anything else except by the name of Allah. 32. To despair Alla’s blessing (Rahmat) and protection. 33. Committing suicide.034. Supporting an unjust cause. 35. Forgetting of the process of reading the holy Quran. 36. Not to fear Allah's punishment. 37. Oppressing the neighbours. 38. Squandering of money and wasting of property. 39. Slighting and neglecting the religious education and not to acquire it. 40. Behaving unmannerly with the teacher and the spiritual guide (peer). 41. Showing the private parts of the body to others unnecessarily. 42. Not preventing any act being done by others against the shariah in spite of one having the power to prevent it. 43. Hating or behaving contemptuously with any poor or wretched man. 44. Hating any person on account of his low social status or humble profession or avocation of life. 45. Feeling glad at the high price of any article of food, which causes suffering to the common people. 46. Dishonouring a man by joker putting him to shame. 47. Not to circumcise the children. 48. Committing of sodomy or masturbation. 49. Burning of any animal with fire. 50. Becoming so hard-hearted as not feel sympathy at the sorrow and suffering of others. 51. Allowing the members of one’s family to be spoiled by not taking proper care of them. 52. Instigating the wife against her husband and the servant against the master and the student against the teacher and the people against the ruler of the land. 53. Carrying on false litigation on account of quarrels with others. 54. Deliberately omitting even one-time prayer and even one day’s past. 55. Wearing of pants by allowing it to go below the ankle. 56. Entering the house of another person without his permission. 57. The habit of making self-praise. 58. Holding of the exhibition of wrestling by the bulls pigeons or fouls. 59. Becoming an Imam or leader, although people do not want one to be so. 60. To seduce a woman and molest her and to spoil the character of a man. 61. To abuse a Muslim. 62. Not to carry out the testament of a dead man. 63. To prostrate before any man (dead or alive) even through mistake.
